(Check 'em out! ) (Do you read the fragments of excitement I place in parentheses?)
(Literature is just as inspiring to me as my favorite painting or musical piece.) (So behold!-My inspirations that could very well be your inspiration as well!) (I'm not repeating myself at all...)
"Craft Inc. Turn Your Creative Hobby Into a Business" Written by Meg Mateo Ilasco
An interesting book filled with encouraging and knowledgeable pointers for artists who plan on turning an art into a business. Interviews with other artists are also included. They address topics such as pricing, public relations, and networking. I know you may have heard an earful about a lot of this, but really check this book out- It has a lot of fine details that are overlooked at lectures. I mean, honestly, have you heard about Product Liability Insurance?
"Thinking With Type" by Ellen Lupton
This book briefs the reader on a short history of type and breaks down the general design of typography. Before I began reading this book, I had no idea what a horizontal measure or set width were. This book also introduces the reader to the grid system, emphasizing the importance of layout in design. It encourages you to consider the entire make up of your design- how is everything interacting (so to speak) with the rest of the space, text, and design?
Both of these books have been influential for me on several levels these passed couple of weeks. They have made me consider art from a new light and angle. And re-consider it. Several more times. I suppose that's a good thing though, because what is art without several bouts of questioning? Or maybe art is the several bouts of questioning...
